Invisalign Treatment in Downers Grove, IL

For those suffering from crowded teeth, or possibly gaps between your teeth that you believe are unsightly, modern dentistry offers a number of treatment options, and one of the most exciting of these is Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

In case you’re not already familiar with it, Invisalign involves using a series of clear plastic aligners or trays, rather than traditional metal braces, to straighten your teeth. But does Invisalign work as well as metal braces and live up to all the hype you may have heard about it? We certainly think it does, and we urge you to read on as we explain some of the benefits of this exciting new approach to teeth straightening.

Who is a Candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign is an excellent choice for both teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth and/or close gaps without all of the hassle that goes with wearing traditional metal braces. If you have misaligned teeth, you’re missing teeth, or suffering from a jaw injury, you may be a candidate for Invisalign.

Here’s How Invisalign Works

If you think you would be interested in this treatment option, here’s a brief explanation of how Invisalign works.

At your initial consultation with Dr. Neal, x-rays and photos of your teeth will be taken in order to assess your alignment issues. He’ll determine if Invisalign is an appropriate therapy for you. If it is, Dr. Neal will work with you to create a customized treatment plan.

At Oakbrook Orthodontics we’ll use our advanced 3D computer imaging technology to create custom-fit aligners designed just for you. All aligners are made of medical-grade thermoplastic. That means you won’t have to deal with metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands that are part of the more traditional approach to teeth straightening. That’s one of the great advantages of Invisalign!

Your entire treatment process will take between 9 to 15 months, and we recommend that you wear your aligners about 22 hours a day. During that time you’ll have somewhere between 18 to 30 different aligners. You’ll wear each set for several weeks before they’re replaced by the next in the series.

During the process, the aligners will gradually move your teeth into their new, permanent position, leaving you with a beautiful smile.

The Many Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign has many benefits, and here are just a few of them.

Appearance

Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. That makes them a great choice for older teens, young adults, and older adults who are not excited about the prospect of wearing traditional metal braces.

Cleanliness

When it’s time to brush and floss your teeth, you can easily remove the aligners, do your brushing and flossing, and brush the trays with your toothbrush. Voila, both teeth and aligners are clean, and a clean mouth is a healthy mouth!

Comfort

Because they’re made of plastic, Invisalign aligners tend to be far more comfortable than metal braces. All aligners are custom made to fit your mouth, and there aren’t any sharp edges to cause discomfort.

Time

With Invisalign, you’ll only have to come to the dentist’s office about every six weeks. In contrast, other treatment options require more frequent dental visits.

Removable

Invisalign trays can be removed at any time, making everyday activities like brushing your teeth and eating much easier compared to traditional metal braces.

Eating and Brushing

With more traditional orthodontic treatments your food options are often limited. There are some foods that are just off limits.

That’s not the case with Invisalign. Since the trays are removable, you can eat whatever you want without restrictions. After you’ve finished, rinse your mouth out, or brush your teeth, and put the aligners back in your mouth.

A beautiful smile and a healthy mouth

Nothing builds self-confidence more than a beautiful smile, which you will get when your treatment is complete. Beyond that, straight teeth are better for your dental health, and the better your dental health, the better your overall health.
