How to Care for Your Invisalign
If you’ve recently made the decision to move forward with straightening your teeth, congratulations! You may think that because you can remove your Invisalign during meals it never gets dirty, but this is not the case. However, it is very easy to keep your Invisalign clean, clear, and odorless.
Rinse Your Aligners
Even if you’re not eating, it’s important to rinse your aligners under running water each time you take them out of your mouth. This allows saliva and stray food particles to wash away and helps prevent the build up of harmful bacteria.
Clean Your Teeth Properly
Brushing your teeth and flossing after each meal will help keep your teeth and Invisalign trays in good shape. Neglecting to brush after a meal can trap food debris, sugar, and bacteria in the tray, which isn’t good for either your aligners or your teeth. If you are out and realize that you’ve forgotten your toothbrush, rinsing your mouth thoroughly with water is the next best thing.
Clean Your Aligners with an Anti-Bacterial Soap
Dyed soaps can discolor your Invisalign, so it’s important to reach for a clear, fragrance-free anti-bacterial soap when freshening up your aligners. You should use a toothbrush to scrub your aligners, being very gentle to avoid leaving any scratches behind. Never use toothpaste to clean your aligners.
